Two time Grammy award winner, Kelly Clarkson, took to the field Super Bowl Sunday in Indianapolis to tackle the “Star Spangled Banner.” The America Idol alum admitted to being “nervous” after such superstars as Christina Aguilera and Cyndi Lauper have botched America’s national anthem.
Clarkson’s performance comes just one year after Aguilera notoriously fumbled, confusing the lyrics to the nation’s song, so it’s no wonder the “Stronger” stongstress was nervous. After Aguilera messed up the National Anthem, she notoriously sent out a statement insisting that she got “caught up” and that she hopes everyone could “feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
However, after nailing the performance, Clarkson took to her WhoSay page to let her fans know how it went. She posts, “Guess what ....I've never been more nervous in my life than singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl tonight ....wow that was almost not fun I was so nervous! Fun night overall though! Thank you everybody for all of the nice things you're saying about my performance! I really appreciate it :)”Clarkson’s performance was accompanied by a children’s chorus and she delightfully hit the high notes. USA Today notes that it’s unfortunate that Clarkson’s performance is publicized by saying she didn’t “screw up” or that there were “no errors.”
